Intro#

Hello, my name is Miguel Chavez. I am not a professional writer by any stretch of the imagination. However, I need a place to gather my ideas and thoughts—and this is it.

One morning at 5 AM during one of my YouTube learning sessions (and yes, I wake up before 5 most days—more on that later), I stumbled across this video. It inspired me to say, “I need to start a blog now.” So here it is. A blog. Or something like it.

For my techie people: the technology behind this blog is very similar to what’s demonstrated in that video, which was a huge inspiration for me. I followed almost everything laid out in it, with one exception—this blog is hosted on Firebase. Why Firebase? Honestly, it’s free, and my personal site is already hosted there.

Enough about the techie stuff—let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this blog. In that video, one of the key takeaways was:

“Use your brain for thinking, not for remembering.”

And that’s the main reason I was finally pushed to start posting and writing.

This blog will serve as my 2nd brain:

  • A place to remember and store ideas for the future.
  • A way to store promises to myself.
  • A tracker for projects I start.
  • A collection of lessons I don’t want to forget.

Purpose and Content#

Even though this blog is public and available on the internet, its primary purpose is to serve as my 2nd brain. However, the reason I press “publish” and share it publicly is to offer my projects, ideas, and lessons to the world.

I’ll share leadership insights from my 10+ years as a leader, as well as the technologies I’m working on. For example, earlier this year, I earned my Azure AZ-900 certification, and I would have loved to have a place to document my ideas and learnings for easy review. Actually, that gives me an idea—so, in keeping with the spirit of this blog, I’ll maintain an inventory of blog post ideas here.

Vision#

I have a big, scary, hairy goal—and I’ve learned that setting such goals tends to guide my life in the right direction. When I talk (or write) about them and share them with others, I find myself more committed to achieving them. I’m the kind of person who breaks down these big, scary, hairy goals into actionable steps and works relentlessly until I achieve them.

So, here’s my declaration:

I will become a CTO in the next 5 years.

I also believe in stating goals as affirmations—it works for me. There it is: my big, scary, hairy goal. Now, it’s time to create a plan and work hard to achieve it. This blog will serve as a tool to gather and refine my ideas to align with my vision of leadership—especially leadership within the technology space.

The posts on this blog will primarily focus on:

  1. Leadership ideation.
  2. Technology content and projects.
  3. Reflections on the past.
  4. Updates on my CTO journey.

Closing Thoughts#

As I mentioned earlier, this blog—my 2nd brain—is primarily for me. But if you happen to stumble across this site, whether on purpose or by accident, I invite you to share your thoughts and connect with me. I’m always open to chatting about the topics I write about.

Whether you agree or disagree with one of my posts, feel free to reach out—whether it’s to yell at me or share your perspective if you found value in what I’ve shared.

To close, I’ll leave you with this thought: Kobe probably missed his first shot, and MJ was once cut from his high school basketball team. So yes, this is my first blog post—it’s probably unpolished, and it might not be perfect. But one thing is certain: if you don’t start, you’ll never get better.

Take the shot, state the goal, and keep grinding toward success!
